The Apple shaped Gal

Happy Friday Showstoppers!

Welcome back to the wardrobe wisdom series.
Today is focused on all the apple shaped ladies out there who struggle to choose the right pieces to flatter their shape.

Who do you think of when you think of an apple shaped woman? (answers welcome in the comments below)

For me, it's Mariah Carey!

Mariah is often mistaken for an hourglass figure but in actual fact she is an apple. This is because although she has a fantastic  body that is curvy in appearance, she doesn't  actually have the curvy bottom that most hourglass shapes feature.

Apples are typically bigger or broader on the top half and slimmer on the bottom. They tend to have a broader middle section which can cause frustration among many women but they also usually have a fabulous pair of legs!

As always, this style series is aimed at encouraging you to love your own shape and to learn to work with what you've got.

Here's a few pointers on what you should be looking for when you go shopping and why:

Style goal- BALANCE. It's all about creating curves in the right places.

  • Tops- Try tops that have a V neckline as this is going to create a focus on your beautiful decolletage and away from your mid section. You can also opt for material that skims the body nicely rather than clings to it. This will ensure just the right amount of coverage to the tummy area while still showing off your shape. The last thing you want to do is go for frumpy baggy tops that totally hide your body . This is what a lot of apples seem to do out of desperately trying to cover up the areas they aren't so fond of.
There is NO need to do this. The key is balancing out the top half with the bottom and in turn, this can create an hourglass looking silhouette!

  • Skirts- Try A line skirts or skirts that have a slight flare towards the bottom. They can really help to pinch you in at the waist while evening out your slender bottom. Shorter skirts will also help to show off your great pair of pins!
  • Dresses- Opt for dresses with a fuller skirt to balance the bottom out. Dropped waist dresses are flattering for apple shapes and help to elongate the body.
  • Trouser & Jeans- To avoid adding any bulk to the tummy section, it is best to look for jeans that have a rise that is lower than your natural waist line. Stay away from trousers/jeans that have lots of buttons or fuss. Boot cut styles can be great because the slight flare on the legs will draw attention away from the mid section and help with balancing your figure.
  • Jackets-  Opt for jackets that fall below your waist line, not directly at it because that will avoid adding extra bulk or emphasis to the mid section. Belted jackets are super flattering because they create the illusion of a more defined waist.
  • Shoes- Heels should generally be mid length and slightly chunky to continue to goal of balancing out the body.
  • Accessories- Experiment with accessories like ear rings and hair jewelry which will focus attention towards your gorgeous face.
I have created a little style board focused on Apple shaped ladies and you can check it out here!

I hope this has helped the apple shape make more sense and that you have picked up some useful tips from the above. :)

Enjoy the weekend dolls!
